Bumper Repair: Repair or Replace?
A scraped, cracked, loose, or pushed-in bumper may need repair, replacement, paint, or inspection for hidden damage.
Updated 2026-06-09
The cover is only the visible part
The painted bumper cover is what you see, but brackets, absorbers, reinforcement, lights, sensors, liners, and mounting points can be affected behind it.
That is why a bumper estimate can change after the vehicle is inspected more closely or parts are removed.
Repair may make sense when
- The damage is cosmetic and the cover is not badly torn or distorted.
- Mounting points are intact.
- There are no sensor, light, cooling, or alignment concerns.
- The repair and paint path is sensible compared with replacement.
Replacement may make sense when
- The cover is cracked, split, missing tabs, or badly warped.
- Hidden brackets or reinforcement are damaged.
- Sensors, lights, or warning systems may be involved.
- The bumper is rubbing a tire, dragging, or no longer secure.
Start with photos
Send clear photos from a few angles and include whether the car is drivable. Green Auto can give a first direction, then confirm the repair path after inspection when needed.
